You may not send players on veteran contracts down to the minor leagues, and if you release them you'll have to eat the contract. You may, however, try to see if anyone is willing to take a player off your hands for nothing by placing him on unconditional waivers. If a player is not claimed, you must keep him and continue to honor his contract. If you place a player on unconditional waivers and another team claims him, the new team immediately receives the player and is responsible for the entire salary. Once a player is claimed you may not pull him off unconditional waivers. However, before the player is claimed you may remove him from unconditional waivers at any time. A player stays on waivers for 10 days. Any claim made after 10 days is invalid. However, you may waive a player again after 10 days, as many times as you like.
