With the 6 hour draft clock:

Yes, it's entirely possible that your pick could fall at a time when you're asleep, or at work, or just not checking in. Not all draft slots are created equal, and some just end up falling at unfortunate times. However, we need to keep the draft moving, and we've decided that this is the best way to balance giving everyone a fair chance to pick with the desire to maintain a fairly quick pace.

The way our rule works is that you get a six hour exclusive window, but then you get an additional 18 hours to make your pick at any time before you get autopicked. Even if you miss your 6 hours, you haven't missed your pick, you just might end up picking a couple slots later. Odds are good that if you're asleep during your six hour window, other people are too, so when you wake up, even if you've missed your pick, there's every chance that the next person hasn't woken up yet either and you haven't missed out on any players.

Most importantly, at this point of the draft, it's less likely that missing a pick and falling back a couple slots is going to result in you missing the player you wanted. Of course it can happen, but it's not like the early first round where the picks are more obvious and everyone is drafting from the same handful of options. So if you have pick 50 in the draft, don't think of it like you're necessarily picking 50th - more likely it's somewhere in the 48-55 range. You might fall back a few picks, or you might even sneak up a couple picks if someone before you misses theirs, but you'll pick somewhere around that time.

Having pick 50 doesn't entitle you to the 50th pick in the draft, but it entitles you to the opportunity to pick 50th, and that opportunity is yours to lose. Our system rewards activity - the more regularly you check in, the more likely you are to make your allotted pick, or even have the chance to move up. But regardless of how active you are please remember that you can send us lists of your top choice(s) when your pick is coming up! Make sure those lists go to both me and Brian (especially Brian), but if you want, you can send them to Smitty, Tucker, Jon, Max, and Rob as well. We can't guarantee we'll be awake or available to make your pick immediately either, but the more people who have your list, the better chance that your pick gets made on time and you get your top choice, and the faster the draft will go.
