Just a reminder about the new rule when it comes to signing players with fewer than six years of service time in free agency:
If Darvish is signed to two or more years, then after the second year he can be kept through his 6th year at whatever price he was paid for the first two years.
So, a one year deal on Darvish would have meant he'd have gone back to being cost controlled after the first year, but a two year deal on Darvish means you have to continue paying him the same annual value if you want to tender him contracts passed the end of the contract.

revising my bid to 4 years@ 20m You may not revise your bid. You may outbid yourself, if you would like. The leading bid is the Phillies' bid of two years, $21 million annually.

Phillies sign Darvish for four years at a discounted $19.5 million annually (15% contract length discount).
