So last year, Alex put together a scoring system based off of John Sickels prospect rankings. While I liked the idea of giving each grade a score, I thought the scoring system need to be tweaked a bit. With help from Ben, we came up with a new scoring system that we think allows for the comparison of prospect values (i.e. 3 B's > 1 A-).
Alex's Scoring A 7 points A- 6 points B+ 4 points B 3 points B- 2 points
New Scoring A 12 points A- 8 points B+ 5 points B 3 points B- 2 points
2012 Rankings
Angels - 157 Giants - 99 Diamondbacks - 76 Padres - 64 Yankees - 63 Royals - 48 Rays - 44 Rockies - 36 Mariners - 34 Nationals - 32 Reds - 30 Jays - 28 Brewers - 26 Braves - 26 Rangers - 25 Phillies - 22 Dodgers - 18 Mets - 17 Marlins - 12 Indians - 11 Twins - 11 Red Sox - 9 A's - 9 Cardinals - 8 Astros - 7 Orioles - 7 White Sox - 7 Tigers - 7 Pirates - 2 Cubs - 0
By division
NL East - 109 NL Central - 66 NL West - 293
NL Total Score - 475
AL East - 151 AL Central - 84 AL West - 225
AL Total Score - 460
I did this late last night, so there may be a few mistakes. I may update this in a few days when i feel like going through the rosters again.

Nice work Tucker! I would suggest keeping the Astros in the NL Central though, as they'll definitely be in the Central for 2012 and will probably stay in the NL even beyond that in this league (since we have to have an even number of teams on Yahoo). My only other complaint is that I'm not on the list

It's not too far fetched to suggest that one day Mark or Alex could field a very competitive, fully positioned Yahoo! team for about $10-$12K given their propensity for gathering young talent.

I'm interested to see how these rankings will compare to the final standings for this coming year.
Also, I'm tempted to add C+ prospects at 1 point each, because i think they'll tell about the depth of the systems. I also think in a good number of cases the difference between b- and c+ is minimal.

I would like to see the C+ prospects included. (of course, as Im not doing the work!) but they do make a difference. Im sure every team has an example but for me Pestano was a C+ arm and became a critical piece of bullpen and did better than some B-/B prospects that I know of.
just my 2 cents....

Yeah, I'll get to them at some point. There are just under 300 C+ prospects (292 I believe) in Sickels book. That's a ton of work at the moment, so I'll get to them gradually

Check out the NL West - #2,3,4,8, and 17. That division is going to be brutal for years.

Rob it's especially scary when you look at the amount of talent already on the ML rosters too. Add those to the prospects and it's looking bad for all of us haha

I believe my recent trade takes me up to a 79. Even after adding seven guys from Sickels' top 50 hitters or pitchers, I still only have half of the Angels' score.
