Hey guys,
Just a quick reminder that the trade deadline (Thursday July 31st at 4:00 pm ET) is approaching. As we've done in the past, we will allow trading to continue after the deadline, but these trades won't be processed until the season ends - so you'd be making these moves for 2015. As such, you may not trade players on expiring contracts after the deadline (even if the acquiring team is intentionally doing it for the compensation pick or the hometown discount). You may trade 6th year players but only if they haven't yet reached the year of service requirements for 2014 at the time of the trade.
You also may not trade 2014 draft picks as a commodity after the deadline. You may, however, trade players that you select in the draft once you have taken them.
Like last year, we will keep secondary free agency open until the week before the start of the playoffs.
As I've done every year, I will be posting a full draft order and list of picks by team for you to review. DON'T FORGET TO CHECK YOUR DRAFT PICKS! We will not change the draft order once it has been finalized. As soon as the first pick is on the clock, that order will not change. So if there are any errors, you need to let us know before that time.
Speaking of 2014 draft picks...
The 2014 Pro-Gm Amateur Draft will begin on Saturday August 2nd at 12:00 pm ET.
A reminder of a few important draft policies:
1. The time per pick will be 12 hours for the first round, and 6 hours for all subsequent rounds (including the compensatory round). If you miss a pick, you will have up to 24 hours from the time you went on the clock to make up your pick (an addition 12 hours in round 1, 18 hours in subsequent rounds). If you fail to pick within 24 hours, you will be automatically assigned the highest available drafted and signed player from the 2014 MLB draft.
2. In order to allow teams with significant salary cap constraints a chance to improve via the draft, there will be a Draft Salary Exemption of $3.2 million. This means that a team may draft up to 8 players beyond the current salary cap, provided that they resolve their salaries and become cap compliant when rosters are due at the start of the offseason.
3.If the person before you runs out of time, it is your pick right away. You do not need to wait for a commissioner to say that the person before you has missed their pick - in fact, you should not wait. All you need to do is see when the person before you went on the clock and add six hours (twelve for the first round, six for all other rounds). If six hours pass and they still haven't picked, they've missed their pick and you may pick immediately.
4.If you know your pick is coming up in the draft and you know you won't be around to make your pick, you are welcome to pm a list of preferred players to any commissioner so we can expedite the selection process in your absence. It's not required that you leave a list so don't feel obligated to do so if you want to make your own picks, but if you don't mind not announcing your own selections and you know who you want, it would certainly be appreciated if you could help us keep the draft moving by allowing a commissioner to announce your selections in your absence.
5.If you completely miss two of your picks in a row (and by completely miss, we mean miss the entire 24 hour period and have to be auto-picked for. If you miss the 6 hour period but you make it back in time to make your pick before the autopick, you're fine), you will be considered "absent" and you will lose your exclusive 6 hour picking window for subsequent picks until you personally inform us that you have returned. Instead of having 6 hours to pick and 18 hours to make it up, you will have 0 hours to pick and 24 hours to make it up.
Please see the Draft Procedures thread in the rules folder for a more detailed look at the rules for the draft. If you have any questions please contact Ben (Rays GM), Smitty (Mets GM), Tucker (Padres GM), or myself.
Best of luck to all down the stretch!
-Brian
