Last year, we decided to use a variation of the Gold Plan (named after Adam Gold, who proposed it for the NHL draft) to determine draft order starting with the 2017 draft. Here's how it works:
I will update this thread each week with the number of eliminated teams and the number of Gold Points they've earned. You can begin earning Gold Points the week after you've been eliminated.
Eliminated Teams:
Team name (Week of Elimination) - Points as of 9/5 (end of regular season)
Minnesota Twins (16) - 39
Cleveland Indians (15) - 34
Cincinnati Reds (17) - 34
Texas Rangers (17) - 28
Chicago Cubs (18) - 27
Los Angeles Dodgers (14) - 26
Oakland Athletics (15) - 24
Pittsburgh Pirates (14) - 21
Kansas City Royals (14) - 19
Boston Red Sox (16) - 19
Milwaukee Brewers (16) - 15
San Francisco Giants (17) - 13
Atlanta Braves (17) - 8
Philadelphia Phillies (19) - 4
Baltimore Orioles (20) - 4
Washington Nationals (21) - 1
St. Louis Cardinals (21) - 1
Seattle Mariners (21) - 1
Once you're mathematically eliminated from contention, you start accumulating gold points, and draft order is determined by a ranking of most points earned. You earn points in the following ways:
1) You earn one gold point automatically each weekafter being eliminated, as long as you make an effort to field the best lineup you can with what you have available to you that week (in other words, don't leave your three OF spots open while three active OF sit on your bench). Commissioner edit: a gold point will be awarded each week starting from and including the week of elimination, rather than the week after. This ensures that teams eliminated in the final week still finish with one gold point, and thus there's no chance of them picking after the playoff teams.
2) You earn one point for every category that you win after being eliminated (not including the week of elimination). If you win a week 7-5, you get 7 points. If you lose 10-2, you get 2 points.
The team with the most points drafts first, followed by the team with the second most, etc. Ties are broken by looking at record (lower record picks first). If still tied, we'll look at the previous year's record and keep going back until the tie is broken.
