Redshirts:
Redshirt requests are due by the end of the day on May 1 (we'll say midnight Pacific time to give some grace period, but that's a hard deadline. No excuses beyond that). May 1 is a Monday, so those players will get to stay on your roster that week. In the interest of fairness and in order to take away the incentive of waiting until the last minute, we'll allow all redshirted players to remain on your roster until the end of that week regardless of when you post your requests. In other words, even if you submit a redshirt request today, that player may stay on you Yahoo roster until the week that starts with May 8. So there's no reason to wait, go ahead and post your requests now!
The other side of that coin is that any redshirt related business must be completed that week. So, if a redshirt request gets rejected and you want to appeal, you better do it in time to get that player removed for the week of May 8. If the player is on your roster on May 8 because you waited until the last day to appeal and we didn't see it in time, he's not getting redshirted, and I don't care whether or not you accept that it's your own fault. Get your business done with plenty of time to spare so that you don't have to worry about running out of time. Redshirt now, there's no incentive to wait.
To recap: May 1 is the deadline to redshirt but there's no reason to wait. Redshirted players can stay on your roster until the end of that week regardless of when you post. We'll use that week to wrap up any additional redshirt business, such as appeals, etc.
Other stuff:
Remember that in secondary free agency you can only sign players to one-year contracts, and only players who have completed a year of service are eligible. If a guy is not on a roster and you want to sign him, but he's a rookie in 2017, you'll just have to wait until the draft to add him.
2018 draft picks still cannot be traded. They will be tradable once we reach the 2017 draft.
Please remember the upcoming rule changes! Next year we go to four SP and four RP (instead of five of each). And cost controlled and minor league salaries will be bumped up a bit. Also, don't forget that we're doing the Gold plan to determine draft order, and remember that any impending free agents that you trade for during the season will NOT earn you a comp pick this winter.
Also, I apologize for the delay in getting the rosters done. I've updated about 75% for 2017, but there are still a handful that I need to do (still end of 2016), and until I do that the other commissioners can't really help out with getting the free agents and trades processed. I'm not going to make excuses for it except to say that I'll get it done when I can, and not sooner. Hopefully once I do my part I'll be able to ask the other commissioners to step up with processing trades and free agents, but when it comes to yearly approval I insist on doing it myself, so until I finish approving those last rosters it's on me entirely. I appreciate the offers to help, but no, this is just something that I need to do myself, as it's my yearly chance to make sure everything is up to standard. But one thing all of you can do to be helpful is to make sure those clubhouse rosters are up to date! And double check your Yahoo rosters to make sure that the players you're starting are actually rightfully yours.
Thanks!
