Pro-GM Power Rankings
Episode: 3
Week: 9
Rising: Tampa Bay Rays (+4), Chicago White Sox (+4), Oakland A's (+4)
Falling: Philadelphia Phillies (-3), Los Angeles Angels (-3), Cleveland Indians (-3)
Welcome to the third episode of my power rankings. The Blue Jays suffered their first loss at the hands of the Tampa Bay Rays, who continue to win despite trading key pieces seemingly every week. The Yankees continued their skid vs the Orioles and lost their third straight. The White Sox proved they were for real with a win over the Indians. The Phillies lost the Reds and face an even tougher matchup in week 9. Episode: 3
Week: 9
Rising: Tampa Bay Rays (+4), Chicago White Sox (+4), Oakland A's (+4)
Falling: Philadelphia Phillies (-3), Los Angeles Angels (-3), Cleveland Indians (-3)
Key games to keep an eye on this week...
American League
- Seattle Mariners (5-2-1) vs Detroit Tigers (5-3)
- Toronto Blue Jays (6-1-1) vs Los Angeles Angels (6-2)
National League
- Chicago Cubs (8-0) vs Philadelphia Phillies (7-1)
- San Diego Padres (4-3-1) vs St. Louis Cardinals (5-3)
1. Chicago Cubs (8-0)
Last Week: 1
The Cubs do what they need to do and beat the Giants handily.
2. Tampa Bay Rays (8-0)
Last Week: 6
Placing the Rays above the Blue Jays out of respect for their win over the Blue Jays, but losing Trout for any period of time could end that undefeated record.
3. Cincinnati Reds (7-1)
Last Week: 4
The Reds demolished the Phillies this past week, handing them their first loss. Severino continues to show significant improvement from last year.
4. Toronto Blue Jays (6-1-1)
Last Week: 2
Shocking result vs the Rays this past week. Should we worry about the pitching? Arrieta looks a little worn down and Foltynewicz extremely inconsistent. The Blue Jays will probably be ok, but in light of the loss I have to knock them down a couple pegs.
5. Colorado Rockies (8-0)
Last Week: 5
The Rockies won comfortably against the Braves this week. Sam Dyson had another brutal outing and his chance at saves in Texas is probably gone.
6. Los Angeles Angels (6-2)
Last Week: 3
The loss to the Mariners is not particularly surprising to some, but is still a big deal. Trading Lindor and Correa early on came back to bite them this week.
7. Baltimore Orioles (4-4)
Last Week: 7
Convincing win over the Yankees this past week. Schwarber is still scuffling and Thames has cooled down mightily, but Charlie Blackmon is performing like a fantasy superstar.
8. Detroit Tigers (5-3)
Last Week: 10
Hopefully Tigers fans upset about last week's rankings take some solace in a the small jump this week after the Indians loss.
9. Seattle Mariners (5-2-1)
Last Week: 11
Huge win against the Angels this past week. Still got some work to do to contend for the division, but multiple players in the lineup are starting to find their stroke.
10. Chicago White Sox (6-1-1)
Last Week: 14
The win this week against the Indians convinced me that this team is for real. Therefore, the White Sox jump into the top ten.
11. Philadelphia Phillies (7-1)
Last Week: 8
Bad loss to the Reds and it doesn't get any easier as they face the Cubs this week.
12. Cleveland Indians (2-5-1)
Last Week: 9
Another loss for the Indians this week. Moves they're making to get back into contention just haven't worked out thus far.
13. Los Angeles Dodgers (5-3)
Last Week: 13
Lance McCullers continues to pitch like an ace and Smoak continues an unlikely breakout year.
14. New York Yankees (4-4)
Last Week: 12
Another loss makes it three straight for the free falling Yankees.
15. Arizona Diamondbacks (2-5-1)
Last Week: 15
Nice win for the Diamondbacks against the Astros, a team they were always expected to beat.
16. St. Louis Cardinals (5-3)
Last Week: 16
Sneaky impressive win vs the Mets this week. You'd still like to see more production from Turner, Swanson, and Puig.
17. San Diego Padres (4-3-1)
Last Week: 17
Donaldson is finally back, but a multitude of other guys are now out of the lineup. Still, the Padres pulled out a win this week. They face a tough battle against the aforementioned Cardinals in week 9.
18. New York Mets (4-4)
Last Week: 18
Losing to the Cardinals hurts in the wildcard race, and things don't get any easier against the undefeated Rockies this week. The Mets could find themselves on the outside looking in for the playoffs after this week.
19. Pittsburgh Pirates (3-5)
Last Week: 20
A very close victory against the Nationals was huge. Wainwright pitching like a stud again is also huge.
20. Boston Red Sox (3-5)
Last Week: 22
They were able to get past the Royals this past week, but this team has been inconsistent all year.
21. Atlanta Braves (3-5)
Last Week: 19
No one expected them to beat the Rockies last week, but a winnable matchup against the Brewers comes at a key time in the NL wildcard race.
22. Oakland Athletics (1-7)
Last Week: 26
FINALLY a win to justify a move up the power rankings. Gallo continues to mash, Sanchez is back, and Harvey had a great start last week.
23. Kansas City Royals (2-6)
Last Week: 21
Got blown out by the Red Sox this past week, a below average team.
24. Washington Nationals (3-5)
Last Week: 23
Last week's nail biting loss to the Pirates wasn't ideal, but key guys like Lucroy and Roark are playing better in recent days.
25. Texas Rangers (2-6)
Last Week: 24
You never want to be the first victory for a team, but the Rangers did just that in week 8 vs the A's. Then again, I've been saying for a couple weeks now that the A's are a much better team than their record shows.
26. Milwaukee Brewers (3-5)
Last Week: 25
Zimmerman continues to rake, but just doesn't have any help from that lineup.
27. Houston Astros (1-7)
Last Week: 27
As predicted, the 'Stros come back down to earth and lose again.
28. Miami Marlins (0-8)
Last Week: 28
Another week, another loss. The back 3-4 really make my job easier on these rankings.
29. Minnesota Twins (0-8)
Last Week: 29
Running out of things to say about these teams.
30. San Francisco Giants (0-8)
Last Week: 30
They faced the Cubs last week.
