Yahoo has announced what it's going to do with Shohei Otani next year:

Otani will be split into two players. There will be Otani the hitter and Otani the pitcher. Now, in a typical 12-team 5x5 Yahoo league, two different GMs can draft the two Otanis. One GM could potentially own Otani the pitcher while another GM would own Otani the hitter.
Not here. Here, Otani will be one player. Whoever drafts Otani (let's be honest, he'll probably be the first overall pick in our 2018 amateur draft, which is currently owned by Brian) will gain both versions of the player.
So on Yahoo, Otani will cost that team two spots. Otani will have to take up two of the places on that team's 25-man roster. There's no getting around this; it is what it is. That team will be able to choose whether to start Otani at pitcher and whether to start Otani as a hitter any given week. They can start him at either, both, or neither. Alternatively, they could have just Otani the pitcher on the 25-man roster while putting Otani the hitter in reserves (or vice-versa).
But as far as the Official Roster goes, Otani will count as just one player. He will take up just one spot on the 40-man roster (and one spot on the 80-man roster, of course).
I believe this to be the solution that is most consistent with our league's rules while balancing Yahoo's. Remember that Yahoo is just a tool that we use for scoring here, but it's our league's rules that take precedence whenever possible.
I'm absolutely thrilled that Yahoo chose this solution for Otani's situation. If you read the article, all of the other Otani options would have created significant problems for us here. This is clearly the best option for integrating Otani into our league with the least amount of disruption possible.
It's an exciting time for Major League Baseball. I can't wait to watch Otani next year.
