Time to start the regular season. Today (Wednesday, March 28) is the last day for Primary Free Agency and Non-Tenders.
After today, free agents will only be able to be opened in Secondary Free Agency. In Secondary Free Agency, only one year contracts are allowed and only players who have completed a year of service may be bid on. Those older minor leaguers (age 24+) who you could previously have signed as a primary free agent are no longer eligible. Discounts do not apply in secondary free agency.
Today is the last day to non-tender players (firm deadline of midnight on the west coast), which means after today any player still on your roster earning more than $0.5 million MUST be paid for the entire season (players earning $0.5 million can always be cut in "minor league cuts"). If you want to release (post in "buy outs") a $1.5 million (3rd year) player you will have to keep paying him his 1.5 million for the rest of this season. You would not have to pay him for his 4th, 5th, and 6th years of course, since those years aren't guaranteed. But if you tried to buy out a player signed as a free agent, "(2018-2021)" for example, you'd be on the hook for all four years.
Please double check your Yahoo rosters to make sure nobody is there who shouldn't be, and everybody who should be is there. For a few teams, I set rosters and/or lineups for you because you had not done so yet. Make sure to take a look before the games start tomorrow to make sure your team looks like it's supposed to!
As always, any time you want to add a player on Yahoo just post in the *Yahoo Moves* thread in baseball operations. I tend to make these moves on Saturdays or Sundays for the following week, and they will be reflected in your Monday roster. I can only guarantee moves made prior to the end of the day on Friday - any moves requested over the weekend might not be made in time (they usually are, but no promises). Last minute moves will be more likely to be made if you post in Chatango or PM a commissioner (AL commissioners: Ben, Brian, Max. NL commissioners: Ben, Smitty, Tucker, Jon, Rob) as well as posting in Yahoo Moves. Yahoo rosters lock sometime late Sunday night (it's out of my hands, after a certain time Yahoo just won't let me make changes). Your lineup locks once the first game of the day on Monday begins. After that, your team is locked for the week. You should be posting in Yahoo Moves any time a player should be removed or added for any reason - including trades!
Redshirt requests are due on May 1. Until May 1 you are welcome to keep playing your redshirted players, even if the redshirt has already been approved. You can also lift redshirts up until May 1 with no penalty (they don't get marked as "rslifted" - which would mean they couldn't be redshirted again in the future - and won't count as one of your two lifted redshirts). After May 1 any redshirted player should be removed from your Yahoo roster and your redshirts will be finalized. See the redshirt thread for more information.
Players signed this winter as free agents may be traded starting May 15. Players signed prior to May 15 may be traded at that time. Players signed after May 15 may not be traded this year. The trade deadline is July 31.
I think that's all, but any further important information will be added to this thread.
Good luck this year!
