Well folks I’m back from my vacation. I am now enjoying the All Star festivities. On to the rankings!
1. Cubs 12-1-1, +0. Win over Mets and Giants. Top players JD Martinez(14) Mike Foltynewicz(50). Couple big wins keeps the Cubs in the lead. The division looks to be all his, but some other teams making big moves to try and take his crown.
2. Orioles 11-2-1, +2. Win over A’s and Red Sox. Top players Jose Altuve(21) Aaron Nola(13). Big jump this week for Nick. He is showing he is a legit contender in the always tough AL East. Does he have any holes in his lineup that can be fixed? He looks very strong and is ready to contend.
3. Rays 11-2-1, +0. Win over Rangers and White Sox. Top players Mike Trout(1) Lance McCullers(36). What does Ben need to do to rise up the rankings? Keeps winning but gets no love from ole Petey. Answer is, Orioles have that head to head win. Can’t wait till that rematch. Still, Ben will find a way to improve if he feels the need too.
4. Rockies 11-2-1, +5. Win over Nationals and Cardinals. Top players Eugenio Suarez(51) Max Scherzer(2). Finally have some shaking up in the top 10 due to Rob’s win over the Nationals. Another meat grinder division that will be fun to see down the stretch. Will Rob stay the course or does he see some moves that need to be made. Make no mistake about it, he is led by the best pitchers in baseball.
5. Diamondbacks 10-3-1, +1. Win over Astros and Mets. Top players George Springer(62) Luis Severino(9). Impressive wins against two fringe playoff teams helps Oren rise up a spot. He is dedicated to making his team the best it can be so I won’t be surprised to see his name come up before the deadline. But what will he go for and what does he need?
6. Nationals 11-3, -4. Loss to Rockies Win over Astros. Top players Francisco Lindor(7) Jacob deGrom(11). Tough loss to the Rockies hurt but a dominating win over the Astros seems to have righted the ship. Should win his division but come playoff time will he have enough to take out the Cubs, Rockies, or Diamondbacks. Max has work to do.
7. Dodgers 11-2-1, -2. Win over Phillies and Brewers. Top players Starlin Castro(84) Chris Sale(5). Wins a couple and drops two spots? Am I getting too old for this? Result of a couple other teams having a little better two weeks. Dave has done a lot with this roster, let’s see what he can do. Upgrading his offense could be the ticket but does he have the pieces to make it happen?
8. Angels 9-2-3, -1. Win over Indians and Yankees. Top players Jose Ramirez(4) Kenta Maeda(128). Wow, Jose Jose Jose Jose. What an impressive season. Will need to improve his pitching staff if he wants to advance. Nic has made a lot of moves since taking over and has his team winning. But a couple stats one way or the other and he may be a .500 team. What will he do...
9. Blue Jays 10-3-1, -1. Win over Royals and A’s. Top players Trea Turner(32) Corey Kluber(6). Everyone in the AL keeps winning so keeping good teams down hurts sometimes. Kluber having a knee injury is something to keep an eye on. Good thing he has depth at SP. Does Brian have a move or two in his back pocket to make by the deadline. I’m sure of it.
10. Mariners 10-3-1, NR. Win over White Sox and Royals. Top players Joey Votto(42) Zack Greinke(46). And welcome Zack to the hot list. Has been just on the outside looking in but has stayed hot and kept winning. Led by a couple old vets I fully expect his streak to continue. Has some stiff competition ahead of him.
11. Marlins 8-5-1
12. Twins 7-5-2
13. Phillies 7-6-1
14. Astros 7-6-1
15. Indians 7-6-1
Hope everyone has a great All Star break. Two weeks till the deadline so activity is sure to ramp up. Feel free to leave some comments, concerns, complaints. Not that this old man will listen, but I love the debate!
