In order to ensure teams are not explicitly rewarded for tanking, we use a system called Gold Points to determine draft order. Here's how it works:
I will update this thread each week with the eliminated teams and the number of Gold Points they've earned.
Eliminated Teams:
Team name (Week of Elimination) - Total Gold Points
1. Texas Rangers (14) - 43
2. New York Mets (15) - 36

Once you're mathematically eliminated from contention, you start accumulating gold points, and draft order is determined by a ranking of most points earned. You earn points in the following ways:
1) You automatically earn one gold point each matchup of the regular season starting with the week you are eliminated, as long as you make an effort to field the best lineup you can with what you have available to you that week.
2) You earn one point for every category that you win after being eliminated (not including the week of elimination). Starting in 2020: If you win a matchup 7-5, you get 7 points. If you lose 10-2, you get 2 points. If you win a category on Yahoo due to your opponent not meeting the IP minimum, but don't actually win the category naturally (for example, you have a higher WHIP than your opponent but Yahoo gives you the win because they only had 13 IP), no gold point will be awarded for that category, to either team (if you do win the category naturally you can still earn the point).
3) Starting in 2020: You will lose one gold point each time you fail to reach 20 IP or 80 PA in a matchup, including those that take place prior to elimination. You get one free pass each season, the first time you fail to reach either of these thresholds. After that, one gold point will be deducted each time your weekly total falls short of one of the benchmarks. You can lose two points the same week if you fail to hit both minimums.
The team with the most points at the end of the regular season drafts first, followed by the team with the second most, etc. Ties are broken by looking at record (lower record picks first). If still tied, we'll look at the previous year's record and keep going back until the tie is broken.
