With the 2011 draft nearly completed I'm wondering if there a consensus that the draft can be expanded to 8 rounds in 2013? I think that if the auto pick option can be promoted out front a bit more, that 8 rounds can be completed in the same time frame as the nearly completed 6 rounds. As to roster size concerns, the six "home team" picks we're about to take could be trimmed to 4 picks if we go to 8 rounds. Also a word of thanks to our commissioners for their time and efforts in making the 2011 draft a success.

I would support an expansion to 8 rounds, especially seeing how quickly things went with autopicks.

I like the sound of expansion. I still have 3 names on my board, and had they been grabbed in a proposed 7th or 8th Round, I'd have had some fun scouting other options. My opinions on the affected rosters sizes would be in line with any league decision on the matter.

You guys just want to make more work for me.
This is a very good idea (there are a few guys I would've drafted if the draft had continued). I will definitely try to come up with an effective way to implement it if the general consensus believes it's beneficial to the league to do so.
Also, I have to say I like having GMs that are enthusiastic enough about the league that they're proposing changes for 2 years down the road. That shows the true long-term dedication a league like this needs to survive. Thank you guys for your contributions to the league and your enthusiasm for helping it grow and improve.

i have to be honest, the reason it was six originally was cause i didn't think there'd be anyone worthwhile left after six. But now that it's over, I could see another round or two worth of good players. I'm curious what people who are against increasing it would say in opposition...

I am assuming your talking to me Ben? I am opposed to it because I do not know a ton about the 7th and 8th round players and I would make better picks with my 2 additional post-draft additions than the 7th and 8th round picks.

Mark, You could use your late round picks on players from your own system if you don't feel comfortable with your knowledge of the draft prospects.
You also may find more mlb rookie players like Eovaldi who you want to draft with your later round picks (there are still a few good ones left over after this year's draft) or players in other team's minor league systems or even international free agents.
The point of expanding the draft would be to allow you more options for two of the players you're entitled to add, rather than restricting to your own system. It also increases pre-draft trade assets (since you can't trade post-draft additions prior to the draft).

I'd be in agreement. The scouting part makes it more interesting, not that I have any clue about it... But it's fun to research

My only question is if were going to add rounds and cut post season add's, why do roster pick ups at all? Why not just make it a 12 round draft with no post draft additions? I understand 12 rounds i s a LONG time, i just don't see any point in doing it somewhere in the middle. My misguided opinion. (I'll be happy no matter what the decision is)
