hope the commishs don't mind a thread that's sort of off topic while we watch our WS play out and await the return of trading. Is anyone planning on seeing the movie that opens today? I read the book a couple of years ago and thought it was pretty interesting. Movie is getting good reviews; might check it out sometime next week...

I definitely want to see it, mainly because I think Jonah Hill playing Paul Depodesta could be hilarious.

I agree that it was very good. Doesn't make it in my top 5 baseball movies though (The Natural, Field Of Dreams, League of Their Own, Bull Durham, Major League)

Also agree it was very good but not great. Minor SPOILER ALERT - I doubt anything I'm about to say is going to give much away but figured I'd warn you anyway:
Wish it had gone more in depth into the statistics themselves and the draft, which were much larger parts in the book (Brown was only mentioned briefly in the movie, the draft wasn't mentioned at all).
The scenes showing the actual trading process, first where he goes to Mark Shapiro's office and second (and especially) when he calls Shapiro, Brian Sabean and Steve Phillips in quick succession were particularly enjoyable (and reminded me of this game). I also thought the John Henry scene at Fenway was brilliant; small role but I think he was the most convincing actor in the film.
