Not gonna complain too much about any of the awards, I think all are reasonable at worst. My least favorite is probably Verlander winning MVP though; I don't have a problem with pitchers winning it, but I just don't think this was the year for it. Verlander deserved the Cy for sure, but I don't see his season as being that much above and beyond what other AL pitchers did this year (let alone some far more dominant years from other pitchers in recent times) to merit it when there were some great hitters who I think deserved it more (disclaimer, I don't care much about how well the player's team did. It's fine to use as a tiebreaker, but not as anything more than that). But like I said, it was still a reasonable choice, just not my favorite option.
My picks:
AL ROY Jeremy Hellickson (runner up: Nova) NL ROY Craig Kimbrel (runner up: Freeman) AL Manager Don't Care NL Manager Don't Care AL CY Justin Verlander (runner up: Sabathia) NL CY Fuck it, tie between Kershaw and Halladay AL MVP Jose Bautista (runner up: Ellsbury) NL MVP Matt Kemp (runner up: Braun)

Talking about Verlander.... Ben, you said you didn't think this was the year for a pitcher to win it. My question is when is the correct year for a pitcher to win it? Verlander had the best season of a pitcher since 2004 Randy Johnson. I mean 250 IP, 250 K, OBAvg of .192, a WHIP of 0.92.... His team was in every game he started. If Verlander wouldn't have been on the Tigers, they would not have made the playoffs. I'm not the biggest fan of Pitchers winning the MVP, but it goes to the most valuable player. Without Ellsbury the Red Sox still would have been good. And they didn't make the playoffs even with his great season. They had 3 guys get MVP votes. The Silver Slugger award is for the best offensive players in the leagues. The Gold Glove award is for the best offensive defensive player... So the offensive players already get awards for their batting... pitchers get the Cy Young. Seems all fair, doesn't it?
I saw a quote the other day that Verlander threw over 3700 pitches on the year and Ellsbury saw around 2500 in his ABs... Doesn't mean much other than Verlander had bigger impact on fewer games, but it's something to think about.
