So I know that we discussed this briefly in the "Change in Release Rule" thread, but i think it needs to be discussed more.
Currently the injury rule states "2) If a player on a long-term veteran contract misses an entire season due to injury, his following year's salary will be cut by 50%. Subsequent salaries will remain at 100%. If the player appears in even one game in the major leagues, this will no longer be an option. Again, you must inform the commissioner if you wish to apply for this discount, and he will use his discretion as to whether this rule applies."
I think that a change needs to take place and that if a player on a veteran contract doesn't qualify for a year of service because of injury, his contract should receive a 15% discount for the remaining years. (All of this could be tweakable)
As it stands now, if a cost-controlled player gets hurt and doesn't qualify for a year of service, their service time doesn't increase, which means the controlling owner has an extra year of that player. I think there needs to be something to compensate an owner (GM) similarly if a veteran misses a year because of injury.
