may I suggest offering a player a one year option when signing them from FA?
the maximum contract length should remain the same so if for example, you offered a player a 2 year contract, you may or you may not offer him an option for a 3rd year where the buyout will be 20-25% of the players annual salary.this wont be applied for 4 yrs contract.

I have an interest in this too. For 2 and 3 year deals to include an option year, if you choose. If you sign someone to an option year and pick it up it should also include a % for the salary to be bumped up. Your picking it up most likely because his value has stayed the same or improved, so that player would expect a raise on the open market, he should get one here. As well as getting a penalty for not picking up the option, possibly the same % but goes against you. Maybe you can only sign one player per offseason to a contract with an option. I like the idea.

COmmish, what do you think of this? perhaps we could implement this before the season starts if everyone agrees. I dont think it is too late to do so.

I think there's no way this gets implemented before next season. I'm still mulling over what I think of the idea itself and will get back to you soon with my thoughts.

I may be okay with the idea in theory, but I don't like the exact parameters with the buyouts, that would have to be further explored and changed.

Definitely not gonna happen this offseason.
