In addition to the percentage discount when signning FAs, how is the idea of giving prize money for teams that made it to the playoffs, win the division, etc... For example.
Wildcard:3million Division Champion:7 million League Champion:15million WS Champion:25 million
Teams who earn this money could this add this to their payroll but these prize money should be consumable. meaning, Assuming I win the WS this season, in additon to the 105 Million cap that we have, I wil have 25 million more cap space for 2013. I will have 130 Million cap for 2013. Assuming I spend 125 million on 2013 for my roster, I will still have 5 million of that price money remaining and so I will have 110 million cap for 2014.
I think should make the league more competitive and more exciting

I do like this idea generally; teams make a ton of revenue from the playoffs. However, I don't think rolling money over is a good idea (at least, not without making that a general proposition, and that would require extensive thought, as it would be a dramatic change). Also, the amounts here, while probably realistic, are much too high for the league. $25 mil essentially allows the WS winning team to add another superstar to their roster.

This is why we have the discounts. Do we really need to have both discounts and prize money?

we could probably remove the discount if we would implement this. below should be more ideal. if we're going to implement this. Teams who will have this additional cap should enable to sign another superstar but they will also have to consider the fact that it won't be there for good. Assuming a WS team signed a player for 2 years at 10m for 2012, he may not have to worry about 2012, but he will be certainly 10 million above the cap for the next season so the GM will have to think twice before using this money.
Wildcard:1.5million Division Champion:3 million League Champion:6million WS Champion:10 million

I see no reason why this would be a better option than the discounts.
Reasons why discounts work better:
1) No confusion with people having different salary caps; everybody has the same cap and everybody knows what it is.
2) Discounts are applied to the entire length of the contract. Receiving a lump sum of $10 million only helps you if you sign one year deals.
3) We already use discounts for other reasons (hometown, contract length), so everybody is familiar with them.
4) The discounts add up and likely end up being worth more money. If the WS Champion spends 25 million on four year contracts the year after winning the league, that's $10 million saved already.
5) Lump sums might lead to a mindset of "oh well, I'm gonna be screwed financially next year but hopefully I'll just win the league and get $10 million." Discounts, on the other hand, help you more the more cap space you leave available, so they force you to plan ahead.

I prefer the discounts.
It is much easier for the commish(s) to handle and apply and to me is reward enough. Teams don't need an extra bonus for doing good. If prize money was awarded, it would affect the competitve balance in my opinion plus makes more work for commish(s) to remember who had it, when it needs to come off. Does that mean teams that have it have a date to get payroll back under? If not, are they penalized. It just seems more work for almost the same theory that we have in place.
Just my two cents....

I prefer the discounts too. in fact the discounts for that year "roll" to the other year with that player so i think the discounts are better

I like the discounts but I love the idea of prize money. Everyone send a $5 bill to the winner of the world series?
