Please make sure to look at complete rotations by going to the Official Rosters before voting. Who has the best starting five plus one (five SPs, one P)? The 6th spot can be considered in your decision, but doesn't necessarily have to be. If a team has a good 6th starter and you want to count that in their favor, great, but if a team doesn't have a 6th starter that shouldn't necessarily count against them: pro-gm.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=rosters&action=display&thread=17For discussion: which of your SPs would start on opening day? What would your five man rotation order be? If you have more than five, who gets left out, or do you go to a six man rotation?

1. Clayton Kershaw 2. C.J. Wilson 3. Rick Porcello 4. A.J. Burnett 5. Randy Wells 6. Javier Vazquez
Kershaw-Wilson is one of the top 1-2 combos in the league.
If Burnett gets traded, that will help my rotation massively because I think once he gets out of New York, his numbers will greatly improve. He can't handle the pressure there.

1. Marcum 2. Baumgarner 3. Leake 4. Tomlin 5. White 6. Volstad
Would probably give my opening day nod to Baumgarner since he has been with me for the whole season last year and Marcum was a trade deadline addition. Sentimental Crap but if it works in the majors.

1. C.C. Sabathia 2. Zack Britton 3. JA Happ 4. Jordan Lyles 5. Kevin Millwood 6. Jordan Walden
Youth with experience. Toss in a Cy Young winner at the top. I like the potential here. High on the bullpen with Melancon, Lopez, and De La Rosa for the future.

Interesting results so far. One team in particular strikes me as not getting nearly enough love from voters.
As for my rotation, gonna have to go six deep:
Zack Greinke Jordan Zimmermann Brandon Morrow Jeremy Hellickson Matt Moore Cory Luebke (listed as RP for Yahoo)
Spot Starters: Mike Minor, James McDonald, Felipe Paulino (also listed as RP)

1. Justin Verlander 2. Doug Fister 3. Bud Norris 4. Carlos Zambrano 5. Liam Hendriks 6. Alex Cobb
1 through 3, match up with anyone. Zambrano is the X-factor. Both Hendriks and Cobb are highly rated kids, Hendriks is the more likely to get a SP job.

The A's and I are the only two teams to not receive a single vote in either poll. Depressing.

1. Ricky Romero 2. Matt Garza 3. John Danks 4. Justin Masterson 5. Alexi Ogando 6. Colby Lewis 7. Jair Jurrjens
Also, Neftali Feliz has been rumored to be moving to the rotation this season (but will occupy an RP spot on my team)

I have to say that after looking at all the rotations more carefully, I have to toss some respect in the direction of the Orioles GM. While it may be lacking in depth, I believe the Orioles rotation has by far the best 1-5 in this game (assuming all are healthy).

I agree. If 18 teams have voted, the orioles should have 18 votes. Curious what the teams that didn't vote for them didn't see in ther rotation.

i feel the same way. i almost voted for the orioles and nobody else. i decided to add in a few other teams as well but i do believe orioles has the strongest rotation 1-5.

1-Dan Haren 2-Chris Sale 3-Vance Worley 4-John Lannan 5-Nick Blackburn 6-Kevin Slowey
Opening day starter no doubt would be Dan. would save chris sale for the home opener if i happen to open the season away lol
I like this rotation , but like very much my bullpen i dont think there are many teams here that match up with it. As for depth and quality

i think the fact that not everyone takes a look through everyones team , makes the poll a little off the actual ranking

Tim Hudson Max Scherzer Edwin Jackson Dustin Moseley Brad Hand
Possible spot starts: Kyle McClellan, Tom Gozelanny and Phil Coke. The pitcher formerly known as Fausto Carmona (Roberto Heredia) is on the shelf and his return to MLB is anyone's guess given his legal problems.
First four are serviceable but not really sexy; Hand is a long shot #5 right now

To add some discussion;
I'd rank the Orioles more 8-10th. It may have Lincecum as a bonafide ace, and Carpenter has been consistently excellent (even though he will be 37 in April) but the rest of the rotation are huge question marks.
Josh Johnson - ridiculous talent, but has had one injury free season in his career. Can't count on him for more than 15 starts.
Roy Oswalt - doesn't have a team yet, another huge injury risk with his chronic back issues.
Johan Santana - who knows what to expect from him? Even pre injury his K/9 and K/BB have declined dramtically since 2004/2005.
I would have loved this rotation in 2008. Right now, I'd put them top 10, for sure, but I wouldn't take them over Rays, Blue Jays, Red Sox, or Rangers, at the least.
Would love to hear other thoughts.

If you are going to project his staff to be on the DL then yeah, there not very good. Fair assumption that they don't all stay healthy, But 1-5 without assuming injuries I'd say there easily top 3.

Compared the top vote getters by average draft round on Yahoo of rotation members (players listed as N/A aren't in the top 100 SPs so information wasn't immediately available and I didn't want to dig for it):

Did the write ups for 6-10 for this list today. Having a lot of trouble putting the top 5 in an order that I'm happy with. Thoughts? Who are your top 5 and how do you rank them?

It really depends on if you're ranking who has the best SP depth, the most SP upside, or the best overall talent. If you're going based on top talent then the Orioles and Brewers are incredibly strong at the top. If you're going by depth, then there's no question it's my rotation (I'm the only team that will be forced to bench a top 100 SP every week). If you're going by upside, it's nearly impossible to have more potential than the duo of Moore and Hellickson.
That being said, I agree with who Logan thinks are the 5 best rotations, but my order is different.
5.Reds- Not the best from a depth, upside, or elite talent perspective. Still a very solid rotation. 4.Rays- Tremendous upside, but a lot of question marks (Greinke's enigmatic, Zimmerman has injury issues, Morrow has control issues, etc.) 3.Brewers-Best trio of SP in the game with Weaver, Felix, and Gallardo. Not much behind those 3 and an injury to any of those 3 could mean big trouble. 2.Blue Jays- I may be biased but I think my rotation's depth is best prepared to weather the injuries of a long season. I may not have an "Ace" but one injury could derail any rotation in this league except mine. 1.Orioles-As I stated earlier in this thread, the best rotation 1-5 in this league. Beyond the true aces (Lincecum and Johnson), much better second tier SP talent than the Brewers.

one injury could derail any rotation in this league except mine. I don't see one injury derailing my rotation with Mike Minor and Dustin McGowan on the bench and Cory Luebke and Felipe Paulino as RPs (one of them moves to SP and Cishek or Gomes moves to RP)... Also, Matt Moore is being taken in the 9th round, so he's another top 100 SP; I had him listed as N/A because he's not SP eligible yet and didn't appear on the list I used.

I don't know about that Ben, I see Greinke as the key component to your rotation and Greinke to Mcgowan/Cishek/Gomes is a pretty big dropoff in production for you. You do have adequate backups but i don't know that your backups could sustain you if Greinke goes down or doesn't perform like he did in the second half last year.
Minor is IMO your best backup option but he's in tough competition for a roster spot and i would be concerned how many innings he'll actually get in the big leagues considering he's definitely behind Hudson, Hanson, and Jurrjens and will have to compete with the likes of Teheran, Beachy, and Delgado.

SP Santana Ervin FA $10,200,000.00 SP Hochevar Luke 5 $1,500,000.00 SP Holland Derek 4 $1,000,000.00 SP Westbrook Jake FA $5,850,000.00 SP Guthrie Jeremie SP Colon Bartolo (if he plays)
I'm thinking this will be my top 6... Moscoso could sneak in there as well... pitching in a HUGE field in Oakland that messes with ERA numbers.
I wouldn't say I'm a top 5 but maybe a 9 or 10.
I've only got one vote! You guys are killing me.
