The Royals made passing comments about how Wil Myers will not catch anymore at their FanFest the last few days. Now, I already knew this. The kid didn't even bring a catcher's mitt to instructs and worked solely in the corner OF spots. However, now that it's basically "official" to the public, how does this change his value?
As a catcher he would play 115 games, get about 450+ ABs, struggle defensively, and be worn down from catching which might affect his offense.
As an OFer, they are taking advantage of his athleticism, don't know how good he'll be but he'll be at least average defensively, he'll play 150 games getting 600+ ABs, and he'll be more likely to hit more as he won't take as much of a beating.
Does the position change increase his value? Yes or no? What kind of effect does it have on his fantasy value? (I'd compare this case to Bryce Harper).

Its an argument of production VS. position..I'd personally would want him catcher eligible..i'd think id go as far to say i'd give up a 30 homer season in the OF for 20 homers at catcher..as i type this im debating that statement now..

There are so few offensively productive catchers that I would have to say he has more value as a catcher than as an outfielder. He is a great prospect either way, but more valuable, in my opinion, as a catcher.

How bad does his defense have to be to get you to retract that statement because he was the worst MiLB catcher I saw last season.....

Think that a offensive catcher is much more difficult to come by in fantasy, so I'd say that he loses some value in our game. For the team its probably better to have his bat some place where he doesn't kill them defensively and where he wouldn't wear out, but in no way would I compare Myers to Harper.

Because of the injury risk associated with catching and the fact that catchers just don't get as many at bats each year as players at other positions do, Myers' bat may actually make him too good to leave at catcher.
According to Keith Law.

That's why you sign someone who is going to qualify as a catcher, but not be a catcher, like Jorge Posada who will DH almost every day.
