MLB has switched to a five team playoff. Yahoo doesn't have an option for five teams. Thus far we've stuck with a four team playoff because it's truer to the structure of the MLB playoffs. However, a six team playoff, although no longer having the same structure as MLB, would only be one extra team instead of one fewer. This would allow more teams to reach the playoffs and keep more GMs engaged throughout the season. It would also lessen the burden of playing in a difficult division, as there would be more Wild Card spots up for grabs.
In a six team playoff, all three division winners would make the playoffs along with three wild cards (best records from any division). The top two seeds would get a "bye" in the first round, while the three seed would play the six seed and the four seed would play the five seed. These would be our "wild card" games, although one division winner would have to be involved. The winners of these match ups would move on to the Division Series against the 1 and 2 seeds, and then those winners move on to the Championship Series and then to the World Series. The playoffs would be one week longer so we'd have to shorten the regular season to 21 weeks.
This change would be implemented for the 2016 season. Once we vote on it, if a six team playoff passes, we'll decide how to do the seeding (whether the division winners automatically get the top seeds or if they just go by record, and whether to reseed the playoffs after each round).
