In order to ensure teams are not explicitly rewarded for tanking, we use a system called Gold Points system to determine draft order. Here's how it works:
I will update this thread each week with the number of eliminated teams and the number of Gold Points they've earned.
Eliminated Teams:
Team name (Week of Elimination) - Total Gold Points ... (record if tied) ... (2017 record if still tied)
1. Texas Rangers (14) - 37
2. Pittsburgh Pirates (17) - 34
3. Boston Red Sox (15) - 32
4. San Francisco Giants (16) - 28
5. Oakland Athletics (15) - 27
6. New York Yankees (16) - 26
7. Kansas City Royals (15) - 24 ... (1-18-2)
8. Chicago White Sox (17) - 24 ... (6-12-3)
9. Cincinnati Reds (18) - 22
10. San Diego Padres (15) - 20 ... (1-19-1)
11. Milwaukee Brewers (17) - 20 ... (6-14-1)
12. St Louis Cardinals (15) - 18
13. Detroit Tigers (18) - 12
14. New York Mets (20) - 5
15. Miami Marlins (20) - 3
16. Atlanta Braves (21) - 1 ... (10-10-1)
17. Minnesota Twins (21) - 1 ... (10-8-3) ... (0-21-0)
18. Houston Astros (21) - 1 ... (11-9-1) ... (6-14-1)
19. Cleveland Indians (playoffs) - 0 ... (12-8-1) ... (9-11-1)
20. Philadelphia Phillies (playoffs) - 0 ... (12-8-1) ... (16-4-1)
21. Seattle Mariners (playoffs) - 0 ... (15-5-1) ... (12-8-1)
22. Colorado Rockies (playoffs) - 0 ... (15-5-1) ... (18-3-0)
23. Tampa Bay Rays (playoffs) - 0 ... (15-4-2)
24. Los Angeles Dodgers (playoffs) - 0 ... (16-5-1) ... (5-13-3)
25. Arizona Diamondbacks (playoffs) - 0 ... (16-5-1) ... (8-12-1)
26. Los Angeles Angels (playoffs) - 0 ... (15-3-3) ... (16-5-0)
27. Toronto Blue Jays (playoffs) - 0 ... (16-5-1) ... (17-3-1)
28. Washington Nationals (playoffs) - 0 ... (17-4-0) ... (6-15-0)
29. Baltimore Orioles (playoffs) - 0 ... (16-3-2) ... (15-5-1)
30. Chicago Cubs (playoffs) - 0 ... (18-2-1)
Once you're mathematically eliminated from contention, you start accumulating gold points, and draft order is determined by a ranking of most points earned. You earn points in the following ways:
1) You automatically earn one gold point each week of the regular season starting with the week you are eliminated, as long as you make an effort to field the best lineup you can with what you have available to you that week (in other words, don't leave your three OF spots open while three active OF sit on your bench). You earn your first Gold Point the week you are eliminated.
2) You earn one point for every category that you win after being eliminated (not including the week of elimination). If you win a week 7-5, you get 7 points. If you lose 10-2, you get 2 points.
The team with the most points at the end of the regular season drafts first, followed by the team with the second most, etc. Ties are broken by looking at record (lower record picks first). If still tied, we'll look at the previous year's record and keep going back until the tie is broken.
