Post All Star Break Edition. Teams are making moves. How much success will it translate too...on to the rankings.
1. Orioles 12-2-1, +1. Win over Texas. Top players Jose Altuve(24) Aaron Nola(12). The top team in arguably the top division it make so it hard not too have Nick as the top team, especially after the Cubs lost. Tough part is that he is in this division. One hiccup and you drop to 3rd. Balanced lineup offensively and pitching should help. But will he make moves like the Rays and Jays behind him?
2. Diamondbacks 11-3-1, +3. Win over Cubs. Top players Didi Gregorious(56) Luis Severino(13). The enigma that is Oren and the Diamondbacks. Has been showing up incredibly as of late. Also plays in an extremely tough division. Was hard placing him this high but defeating the top team in the league means something. If his team gets healthy we could be looking at the favorite in the NL.
3. Rays 12-2-1, +0. Win over A’s. Top players Mike Trout(2) Sean Manaea(38). Just keeps winning. Beating teams he should. Acquired Yoan Moncada this week in a pretty typical Ben type move that keeps his team Young an competitive every year. Might not pay off this year but if your a believer in Moncada he could be a future star. I fully expect Ben to keep winning and capitalize on any mistakes from the Orioles. Looking forward to that next matchup.
4. Rockies 12-2-1, +0. Win over Brewers. Top players Eugenio Suarez(54) Justin Verlander(3). Solid win against a game Brew Crew. Still led by the best 1/2 punch Pitchers in our league. Big big matchup with the Cubs this week will shakeup the NL and the power Rankings. Means much more to Rob as he has the tougher division. Still think he makes a deal to improve his offense, but as the 95 Braves proved, pitching wins championships.
5. Cubs 12-2-1, -4. Loss to Diamondbacks. Top players JD Martinez(14) Mike Foltynewicz(53). Tough, close loss to the Diamondbacks. Will have no issue winning the central in a down year in the division but the wonder is here does Chris want to compete for a title this year, or does he just simply want to make the playoffs? I feel he will make a move somewhere, but what else does he need? Big matchup with the Rockies this week might show us.
6. Nationals 12-3, +0. Win over Giants. Top players Francisco Lindor(8) Jacob deGrom(7). Good win to get back on track. Made a couple moves recently as he has fully decided to go all in. Adding Scooter Gennett and Obdul Herrera were great additions. Max wants a ring and has decided the time is now. May regret trading Moncada, but you won’t find too many Cubs fans that would trade their title for Gleyber Torres back.
7. Dodgers 12-2-1, +0. Win over Marlins. Top players Travis Shaw(86). Chris Sale(5). Dave stopped Marlins hot streak in its tracks as he continues to compete in the rugged NL West. I feel we will start to see some separation soon as these great teams play each other. Having Chris Sale pitching for you will always keep you in any game. May need to make some offensive improvements though to make a run in the NL.
8. Angels 10-2-3, +0. Win over Twins. Top players Jose Ramirez(1) Kenta Maeda(107). Every week I expect the Angels to lose but every week they win. Jose Ramirez has finally taken the #1 ranking from Mike Trout. No easy task. Nic will need to improve his pitching if he wants to make a run. Playoffs are a almost certainty but is he content with just that? Jose wants more!
9. Jays 11-3-1, +0. Win over Tigers. Top players Trea Turner(39) Corey Kluber(11). I genuinely feel bad ranking Brian this low but I haven’t had a impact matchup to move him higher. Always solid on both ends I have no doubt we will see him rising here. Just like Rays, will be there to capitalize on any mistakes made by the teams above him. I wouldn’t rule out another move or two by the deadline. Needs to hope Kluber is healthy, but history shows that he will be just fine.
10. Mariners 11-3-1, +0. Win over Indians. Top players Joey Votto(44) Zack Greinke(36). One of my favorite teams in the AL has been on quite a roll. Led by solid pitching Zack keeps winning. Won’t be easy in the AL and I think he needs to make some offensive improvements. Never been shy to make a move. Will be fun to see Zack and Nic battle it out the 2nd half.
11. Phillies
12. Marlins
13. Twins
14. Astros
15. Indians
These will be the last rankings until after the trade deadline. As I am quite old, I need another vacation. I am excited to see the moves made by teams that will be going for it. As well as the beginning of the draft. See you in a couple weeks! As always, feel free to comment. I don’t mind Nats....
