Regular Season
If two or more teams are tied for the division lead, the division winner will be the team with the best record within the division.
If two or more teams are tied for a wild card spot, the wild card winner will be the team with the best result in the final week of the season. If still tied, the result for the previous week will be used, then the previous week, continuing back to the start of the season (so if both teams are on a winning streak, whoever's streak is longer. If both are on a losing streak, whoever's streak is shorter).
Remember: it is possible in our league for Wild Card teams to take the #1 or #2 seeds! If two teams finish tied for the division lead, the divisional tiebreaker will be used to determine the division winner, but the wild card tiebreaker will be used to determine seeding.
Post Season
Head-to-head record will be used to determine the winner of post season match ups that end in ties. Only wins and losses will be considered, not the actual score in the match ups. If still tied, playoff seed will be used.
World Series
Since head-to-head record doesn't apply when one team is an AL team and one team is an NL team, and seeding shouldn't necessarily translate between leagues where competition is an entirely different set of teams, we use our own criteria to break ties in the World Series (in the event of a tie, Yahoo's determination of the winner can be ignored). Our tiebreaker looks at the hypothetical head-to-head record between the two teams if they had been matched up against each other each week of the regular season. Looking at how many categories each team would have won against the other in each week of the regular season, we can see which team would have won more weeks. That team will be the World Series winner. If the teams are still tied we will look at season stats, with each team scoring a point for each category (HRs, SBs, AVG, ERA, etc) that they win in aggregate over the season (the NL champ gets a point if they had more HRs than the AL champ, the AL champ gets a point if they had a lower ERA, etc). If still tied, we will do the same with playoff stats. If still tied, we'll look at which team would have won the LCS if matched up head to head, then which team would have won the LDS, then the wild card week, then the final week of the regular season, then the penultimate week, etc. In the unlikely event that there's still a tie, a coin flip will determine the winner. Regardless of how the tie is broken, BOTH teams would receive the 10% World Series discount if there is a tie. pro-gm.proboards.com/thread/3759/ties-world-series-vote
