Has anyone noticed how much better our National League is than our American League? I think there could be five teams in our National League who are better than every team in the American League, at least for 2011, with the majority of them coming from the NL Central. As a National League fan in real life, it pleases me that those teams were able to shift the balance of power in the course of just one offseason, but as an American League team in this game, I'm frightened of the pounding my team would likely get on the off-chance it does make the World Series.

Hmm, maybe it's just me then. And it's not to say there aren't some very good teams in the AL, plus anything could happen when the games are actually played, but on paper it just looks to me like the best teams are in the NL.

I don't see the difference either. I'm an AL guy in RL.... and here too I guess as I'm an AL Central team.
But, like I tell my kids, that's why we play the season on paper.

I see what you were saying rays, but all of those teams have a weakness and their is no elite number one team. Which means the Angels will be competing for the Championship!!!!!

I agree with the Rays. I used to think the NL west was a joke until the Giants won it all. Now it seems like over night the power has shifted to the NL league. Let's face it, the AL west sucks, maybe with the exception of Texas. But without Lee they don't have the pitching and Hamilton is bound to get hurt. The Yanks are getting old. The Rays are young but don't seem to have the it factor ( which they are now hoping Manny will provide). I have no faith in the whitesox and the Twins are good but they are always one injury away from not making the playoffs. Still waiting on the Tigers.
On the other hand, the Phillies have a starting rotation featuring 4/5 guys who would be #1's on any other club. The NL Central is stacked with Youth and features some of the best pitching available. And that's another thing, where did all the pitching go? Apparently to the NL.
I can totally see how the NL seems better than the AL. But that's just my B.S.

I believe he was talking about OUR leagues and divisions but good insite anyway Kevin.....
Plus we all know the NL is the true league - if your pitcher can't even swing a bat.....

Oh. Busted. I guess I should have read the whole thread then. I have no idea who has the advantage in this league vs NL and AL. But what I do know is the Redsox will win it all in in this league. Anybody care about MLB aside from Fantasy?

Going back to RL NL vs AL, I still don't think the NL has the better league. The pitchers seem to be migrating there because it's an easier league to pitch in. Most teams have two terrible hitters in the lineup everyday (including the pitcher). There is star power there but if you go back through, the AL East is still the best division in baseball. The NL Central has gotten better this off season, but if you look at the farm systems, they dont have the ability to sustain it.

And as far as the Giants representing the NL West last year, anyone can get hot at the right time. The best team doesn't always win the world series or even their own divisional series.

Well, talking about RL, I wouldn't say the NL is as good as the AL yet, but they've definitely narrowed the gap. The Brewers, Reds, and Phillies in particular look very strong. And the Reds aren't going anywhere, their farm is solid and many of their young players are only going to get better. Meanwhile, the Braves look to be on the cusp of another massive dynasty.

The curse of the Billy Goat will be broken this year. Better get that parade route ready, the Cubs are gonna win this World Series.

Im willing to say the Giants will be as good if not better this season. Even if guys like Huff and Burrell regress there's still a lot to look forward too. 1.) A Full Season of Posey. Molina was terrible as a giant last year and the team really started winning once Posey got the call. 2.)A Full Season of Bumgarner. Todd Wellemyer was our 5th starter going into last season..... 3.) a full season of Ross/Torres/Burrell OF. Last year our opening day OF was Shierholtz/Rowand/ John Bowker 4.) Brandon Belt, could be the next big hitter the Giants need. 5.) a better year from Lincecum. Timmy had an awful few months before ending the season and playoff's dominant 6.) Mark Derosa's healthy. could provide a a very good bench bat/backup if someone goes down. Obviously I'm a bit bias being a Giants fan but i think with our pitching staff there's no reason to think we can't be contenders again. And were no doubt the team to beat in the NL West

Yeah i'd say your the early favorite Cubs. Never know whats gonna happen during the season though....... I might have to agree with that assessment, but it's close between a whole bunch of teams. Plus, the NL Central is going to be a competitive division. I wonder what you guys think about this: I've been thinking about doing a power rankings for the upcoming season, in which I'd list the teams in order from 1-30 based on my opinion of those teams for the coming season. How do you all feel about this? Do you think it might cause some ill feelings or do you think most people would be able to take it, seeing as it's meaningless. And no, I wouldn't be putting the Rays at the top

Sounds like a good idea to me as well. I don't think anyone would take the rankings personally. If anything they should just add motivation to prove people wrong.

Power Rankings get a vote from me.
Always important to know where your team is in regards to the rest of the league.
