Last year we forgot to do this. Sorry! But after a one year hiatus we're back with the Pro-GM 2021 Virtual Hall of Fame Ballot!
In 2019 we virtually elected Mariano Rivera (100%), Roy Halladay (79.2%), and Edgar Martinez (79.2%), all of whom were elected on the actual ballot along with Mike Mussina. Missing the cut were Barry Bonds (62.5%), Roger Clemens (58.3%), Curt Schilling (50%), Larry Walker (50%), Mussina (41.7%), Gary Sheffield (37.5%), Jeff Kent (33.3%), Manny Ramirez (29.2%), Fred McGriff (29.2%), Omar Vizquel (25%), and Todd Helton (25%). Mussina and Walker are no longer on our ballot due to real-life election, but Derek Jeter, who was elected on his first ballot in 2020 when we missed our virtual ballot, has been included as an extra name (see below) as I'm interested to see whether he would have been a unanimous selection among our crowd after famously falling one anonymous vote shy on the real ballot. Of the above names, Fred McGriff has also fallen off the ballot due to completing his eligibility. No players are in their tenth year of eligibility this year.
Billy Wagner, who received 0% of the vote on our 2018 ballot (and therefore would have fallen off), received 2 votes (8.3%) on our 2019 ballot. He returns this year. With Wagner's bump in support, none of the players who received 5% in real life failed to reach that mark on our virtual version, and none of the players who fell short in real life managed to reach 5% here, with Miguel Tejada the only one to receive any votes at all (1 vote our of 24, for 4.2%). Johnny Damon did it in 2018, reaching 5% on our ballot but missing that threshold on the actual one. Will any of this year's newcomers (Mark Buehrle, Tim Hudson, or Torii Hunter, perhaps?) reach 5% or more? What about Bobby Abreu, the only newcomer from last year to carry over?
With the inclusion of Jeter you may vote for up to 11 names this year. Feel free to choose less. Please do not choose 11 names unless one of them is Jeter (in other words, if you are not checking Jeter's name please limit yourself to at most 10 of the other names). If you don't want to vote for anybody make sure to select the "BLANK BALLOT" option so that we still register your vote. ONLY select "BLANK BALLOT" if you're voting for NOBODY (you can choose blank ballot + Jeter if you like).
So who are we electing? Vote and discuss!
