The 2021 Amateur Draft will begin in this thread on Saturday, August 7th, 2021 at 12:00 pm ET.
GMs may draft any player who was taken in the MLB draft (with the exception of those selected in previous eligible drafts who are currently owned on rosters, which you can find in the Draft Order/Results thread). You may draft an amateur draft player who did not sign a contract in real life in the hopes that he'll be drafted again in the future.
GMs may also select players who have not yet completed a year of service time and who do not appear on any roster at that time, provided they are not international free agents who were 24 or older on January 1. (Note: Years of service time are not earned until the season ends so if a player has played enough to earn their first year of service time during the 2021 season, they are still eligible for this draft. Also, 2020 did not count towards service time in our league. In other words, any player who would be a first year player this year is eligible, except older IFAs). Players drafted in the 2020 Pro-GM Amateur Draft (or post draft additions) who were not put on a roster, but also were not explicitly cut by the GM, are NOT eligible to be selected unless you check with a commissioner first, who will examine the situation to determine whether it was an intentional drop.
The time per pick will be 12 hours for the first round, 6 hours for rounds Comp A - 3, and 4 hours for rounds 4 - 8.
If a team misses a pick, the next team may pick immediately. The GM who missed the pick will have an additional 12 hours (round 1), 18 hours (rounds Comp A - 3), or 20 hours (rounds 4 - 8) to make up the pick, giving him 24 hours total to pick. However, since the next team can pick as soon as the first 12, 6, or 4 hours have passed, the player pool will likely have lost a few players by then. If after 24 hours, the GM still has not selected a player, that team will automatically be awarded the highest remaining selected player from the MLB draft who signed a contract with his team
We will be instituting a $4mil cap exception to allow teams to fit their draft picks under the cap, and teams must stay under $159 million through the end of this season. The cap will increase to $160 million for the 2022 season, starting the day after the conclusion of the Pro-GM World Series, and you are required to make cuts or non-tenders to get under the cap limit before making any picks that would put you over the cap limit. The roster limit will remain at 80 players for 2022.
If you know your pick is coming up in the draft and you know you won't be around to make your pick, you are welcome to PM a list of preferred players to any commissioner so we can expedite the selection process in your absence. It's not required that you leave a list so don't feel obligated to do so if you want to make your own picks, but if you don't mind not announcing your own selections and you know who you want, it would certainly be appreciated if you could help us keep the draft moving by allowing a commissioner to announce your selections in your absence.
If a GM completely misses two of his picks in a row (and by completely miss, we mean miss the entire 24 hour period and have to be auto-picked for. If you miss the 12 or 6 hour period but you make it back in time to make your pick before the autopick, you're fine), that GM will be considered "absent" and will lose his exclusive 6 hour picking window for subsequent picks until he personally inform us that he has returned. Instead of having a 12 or 6 hour exclusive window to pick and the remainder of the 24 hours to make it up, he will have 0 hours to pick and 24 hours to make it up. Any team that fails to post in the check in thread pre-draft will be considered absent from the beginning of the draft until they notify a commissioner that they've returned.
Immediately following the completion of our amateur draft will be a period during which you may roster up to four players from your corresponding Major League club. None of these four players may have completed a year of service time yet, and none may appear on another team's roster.
For more complete draft instructions, please see the draft procedures thread at pro-gm.proboards.com/thread/9
We will be tracking all picks in the Draft Order thread. Please check this thread frequently to see if the player you want to select has been picked already and also to keep track of when your picks are coming up.

It's also a good idea to keep tabs on who the most recent "autopick" was. If you know who the last autopick was, then you know anybody drafted before that player IRL is no longer available. You can find the real life draft results here: www.mlb.com/draft/tracker
If you have any questions please contact Me, Jon (Astros GM), Smitty (Mets GM), Tucker (Padres GM), Max (Tigers GM), or Nick (Orioles GM)
