As you know, the current rule is that you are not allowed to trade free agents signed during the offseason until June 15 of the following year. The reasons for this rule include: so that teams don't take advantage of discounts, signing players at a lower rate so that they can then trade them to other bidders at the lower salary. so that teams take their free agent signings seriously, and don't just hand out huge contracts thinking "oh well, I can always trade him tomorrow." sign and trades aren't allowed in MLB either. You have to wait until June 15.
However, in a game where trading and transactions are such a major piece, half a season (nearly) is a long time not to be able to trade certain players. I wonder how people would feel about moving the date to May 1. I think all of the good reasons for having such a rule would still be answered, but we wouldn't have to wait as long to make trades. Plus, it might help jumpstart the league from what's been a somewhat inactive period.
Thoughts? I won't say I'm going to put it to a vote just yet, but I'm curious what people think. If we do end up making a change, it will require a majority vote.

My vote would be june 1st -
one month is not enough to evaluate a team and what you can do - two months is more realistic in my opinion and would be fine with that....
Dont do it cause of inactvity and to try and jump people in, if they are inactive, look for new owners....there will be periods of inactvity from time to time but that is normal....

I think June 1st gives us a chance to see what we might need for our teams and think about possible trades. One month in is hard to judge how a player will do throughout the season.

May 1st. Teams that paid big bucks for players that are now struggling should be able to rebuild.

"Teams that paid big bucks for players that are now struggling should be able to rebuild."
Then they shouldnt sign those contracts in the first place. Whats to stop people from signing outrageous contracts if they can trade them a month later.....changing this could affect FA....

Also should one month dictate how a team can do, starting off bad does not mean that season is over....just my opinion.

I would say the sooner we move it up to the better. My main reasoning for this is injuries. In a league 30 teams deep it's almost impossible to have major league depth that can make up for lost production when an injury occurs. Because of the no trading signed free agents rule, one of the few ways to find productive replacement players for your team is being severely limited and this could cause teams to fall into a deeper slide in the standings than they would have to if the ability to acquire solid major league talent was more available to them. I'd vote for May 15th if we're going to move up the deadline, 2 extra weeks of having the ability to acquire major talent could make a pretty big difference for a team that catches some hard luck injuries.
