Announced retirement today.
I know the rule is after the season, but since he had a contract that would’ve expired last year and only renewed because of the pandemic, and he didn’t play at all in 20 anyways, is there any exception to the rule? If not understood and no big deal. But feel like it’s worth asking since his contract only renewed since nobody gained time last year.

We did say that any player that retires this offseason would be included in the contract reduction. Post in that thread please and he would be a free drop for you. |

Shaw- Declined. He pitched 70 games in 2019. The 2020 season was not counted in any service time. Morrison- Approved. His salary is reduced to 7.8M for the 2021 season. |

Based on the new rule change with players placed on restricted the Dodgers request salary relief by dropping: 2B/3B Starlin Castro 6.5M (2024) *due to his placement on restricted list and release by the Nationals due to MLB Domestic Violence Policy issues. Approved. Castro's contract is voided and Dodgers will not be on the hook for any of his future salary. |

C Buster Posey 1.4 million (2022 - 2023) - other portion of salary covered by Pirates Retired on 11/4/21 Rule states "if the player officially retires during the contract, you can drop him after he completes the season (if he retired during the season) or after the following season (if he retired during the offseason)". Posey retired during the offseason so you can drop his 2023 salary but you're still on the hook for 2022. You can also buy him out to clear a roster spot as long as you keep that salary on your roster for 2022. |
