In order to give teams more control over the service clocks of their players, as well as to incentivize staying competitive while helping your team's future, we have come up with a new "redshirt" rule.
You may redshirt up to five players. Up to two of your redshirts may be 2nd or 3rd year players; the rest must be minors/1st year players. A redshirted player does not gain a year of service even if he accumulates the necessary playing time, but cannot be used on your active roster for the entirety of the season.
To apply to redshirt a player, post the name of that player and explain in a sentence or two why you think you have sufficient cover at that player's position (keeping in mind that all players are eligible for either DH or P spots, so you need cover there as well). We will consider each application very strictly - we will not allow you to redshirt a player if we feel like it leaves a hole on your major league roster. Unsuccessful applications may be appealed by PM or resubmitted once cover is found, or may be replaced with a new application to redshirt a different player.
In addition, ensuring that your redshirt requests succeed will be a season-long endeavor. If we notice that you are not fielding a complete lineup on Yahoo of active players (players with "NA" listed by their names do not count as active - find somebody else through trade, promotion, or secondary free agency), you will be notified, and failure to address the issue may result in some or all of your redshirts being lifted and the players gaining service time despite your efforts. We may also choose to lift your redshirts if we determine that you are not making an honest effort to field the best team you can with what you have available - for example, if you're using a bench player who gets two or three at bats per week as your second baseman while another more competent and regular 2B is wasted on your bench or in your minor leagues, you will be notified and, unless you can convince us of your intentions, you will be given a deadline to address the issue. Failure to do so may result in redshirts being lifted (intentional losing may also still result in the team being dropped in the draft order or in expulsion from the game, as it does now). Players who have had their red shirts lifted by the commissioners may be re-tagged in future seasons provided that all criteria for redshirting are met.
You may change your mind on up to two redshirts during the season. Doing so means you can use the player, but he would now gain a year of service assuming he gains the necessary ABs, IPs, or Games (even if gained prior to the redshirt being lifted). If a player's redshirt is lifted, he may not be redshirted again in future seasons, either by the team who lifted the redshirt or by any other team, unless he fails to reach a year of service during the season in which the tag was lifted.
You may only trade away redshirted players if you lift the redshirt before trading (this would count towards your limit of two redshirts lifted per season).
For more information on the redshirt tag, visit HERE
The redshirt deadline is May 1. Prior to May 1, you may lift redshirts with no penalty, and redshirted players may remain on your roster until that time.
Post redshirts here in the following format:
1) POSITION Firstname Lastname, (Nth year) Explanation (one or two sentences, including names of players who can cover) 2) POSITION Firstname Lastname, (Nth year) Explanation (one or two sentences, including names of players who can cover) etc. Not all redshirts must be posted at once.
Applications will be responded to here and by PM.

1) SP- Daniel Hudson (3rd year) My rotation is very deep with Strasburg, Price, Cueto, Kuroda, Minor, Cahill, Lewis, Gee, Gonzalez, Ogando, Detwiler, Chatwood (pretty sure I could fill 2 rosters with the amount of SP I have :-P). I can afford to give Hudson this year to recover from Tommy John Surgery without having to contribute to my team.
2) SP/RP - Neftali Feliz (3rd year) All the SP named above (with Ogando, Detwiler, and Chatwood RP eligible) plus RPs Motte, Rondon, Uehara, Coleman, Fields, and Johnson (possibly a SP) give me plenty of flexibility with my pitching so I can give Feliz the year to recover from Tommy John Surgery without having to contribute to my team as well.

1) C Yasmani Grandal (2nd year)
I signed Carlos Ruiz this offseason, giving me a C to start for Grandal. Ruiz will miss the first 25 games i believe, so i also have Jesus Flores to cover those first 25. Using the Red Shirt on Grandal allows me to to skip a season in which he will miss the first 50 without losing a year of service.
2) 3B Manny Machado (2nd year)
I have Moustakas as my starting 3b, as well as Crawford at SS. Also have Joaquin Arias who is eligible at multiple positions backing both of them up. Allows me to make up for only getting a half season last year.
3) OF Oscar Taveras (Minors)
He should start in the minors and is blocked in St. Louis. I have 6 Of's on my rosters, including 3 who should get serious PT (Cespedes, Pagan, Blanco). Keeps me from losing a year of service if he gets called up because of injury.
4) SP Martin Perez (1st Year)
I have a 5 man rotation of Bass, Nicasio, Ryu, Nolasco, and Narveson, as well as a few RP/SP options in Stammen, Scahill, and Hefner. Gives him another year to figure it out.

I have 3 reserve OF's in Campana, Petersen, and Gentry. I also have Arias available to start the season in the DH spot, as well as Flores once Ruiz gets back.

SP Rubby De La Rosa (2nd year)
I have plenty of depth at SP (Pineda, Vargas, Tillman, Beachy, Harang, Matusz, Deduno) so I'd prefer to save a year of De La Rosa while he recovers from TJ surgery and he has an uncertain role on the Red Sox roster.
SS Xander Bogaerts (1st year) SP Alex Colome (1st year) OF Jake Marisnick (1st year)
These are all prospects that may have a chance at reaching the big leagues this year. However, I don't anticipate needing their production for this season and I'd like to save a year of service time on the off-chance that they accumulate more than 130 AB or 50 IP. More of a precautionary measure than anything else.

For Bogaerts and Marisnick, I need specific names of players who you intend to use at their respective positions on the ML team. Although approval for 1st year players is and will be easy to get, adequate cover must still be demonstrated.
Have Lohse, Wilson, Burnett, Lackey, Porcello, Guthrie, and possibly Kazmir to make 7 starters besides Thornburg. He can take his rookie lumps on what I feel will be a not so good Milwaukee team.

I have Alex Avila and Chris Iannetta on my major league squad, and suspect that Lavarnway will be in AAA for a good portion of the year, given the depth that BOS has at C.

Freddie Freeman (3rd year) - I have Votto for 1B and Rizzo for DH Devin Mesoraco (2nd year) - I have Wieters, plus his backup (Tegarden) if he gets injured. I'd rather save Mesoraco for a season when he's a full time starter. James Paxton (minors) - starting the season in the minors; rotation is pretty set (Greinke, Sale, Moore, Zimmermann, McDonald, Fiers, Straily) Christian Yelich (minors) - protection in case of a late season call up. I don't need the outfielder (Stanton, Harper, and Jennings with Joyce as the backup).

1.) Martin Maldonado, C (second yr)
Have Russell Martin, Mike Napoli and Mike McKenry at C ahead of him.
2.) Quintin Berry, OF (second yr)
Have Garrett Jones, Ben Zobrist, Nelson Cruz, Jeff Francoeur, Emilo Bonifaco and Jonny Gomes for OF/DH
3.) Stephen Fife, SP (minors)
Have Clayton Kershaw, Tim Hudson, Ted Lilly Jeff Samerdzija, Blake Beavan, AJ Griffin, Jose Quintana, Cole DeVries, Jason Marquis, and Roberto Herandez ahead of him on my MLB roster
At SP on my roster I have Alvarez, Smyly, Milone and Miller as Starters. Turner and Hutchinson are waiting in the wings for a call up this season. Richards could be a long inning reliever or SP if an injury occurs as well.
2) SP Tyler Skaggs (Minor) (Same reason as above)
3) Mike Zunino (I have Josh Thole as a C, who has been pretty consistent at not missing games due to injury)
4) Jonathon Singleton (I have Laroche at 1B and Grandy, Craig, Hart, Victorinio and Shafer as OF)

Bundy - denied (not enough active major league SP to fill out a five man rotation and a P spot) Skaggs - denied (see above) Zunino - denied (Thole is in AAA) Singleton - approved
Please remember that you can appeal denied redshirt applications by PM. Please also remember that you will lose redshirt tags if you can't field a complete Yahoo roster (NA players don't count).
